Solano County Supervisor Linda Seifert announced Thursday that she will seek a second term in office, come June.
Seifert represents District 2 which includes the cities of Benicia, Cordelia, Green Valley, and portions of Vallejo, Fairfield and Suisun Marsh.
She was first elected in June 2008.
“I believe that I have fulfilled the promises I made four years ago when I first ran for public office,” Seifert said in a press release announcing her decision. “I promised to be a supervisor serving the community and not special interests and I have worked tirelessly to fulfill that commitment.”
Seifert touted her record, saying she has been a thoughtful board member, carefully considering all issues, exercising fiscal responsibility, standing up for veterans, children, families and supporting measures that ensure public safety and that protect the environment for generations to come.
In particular, she said she takes pride in her proposed Local Preference Ordinance favoring local businesses in the awarding of county contracts.
She also pointed to efforts to use funding wisely, noting that she voted to reduce her own pay and supported measures that would reduce salaries for high paid government officials. She also supported measures that cut the county government’s budget by nearly 25 percent since she joined the board, she said.
“With our county continuing to face a challenging economy, proven leaders who have demonstrated their ability to reach out and
work hard for everyone’s benefit are more important than ever,” she said.
Among those already endorsing her re-election bid, Seifert said she has won the political support of Congressmen John Garamendi and George Miller, State Sen. Lois Wolk, and Assembly members Michael Allen and Mariko Yamada.
She will officially kick off her campaign for re-election at a fundraising event at the home of Barbara Lane in Green Valley on Nov. 17.
